Biography:

I was born in Mexico City and came to the U.S. as an infant. I became interested in a career in medicine after witnessing the disparities that immigrant & undocumented communities face in the healthcare system. I’ve also loved math & science subjects in grade school and college. I cannot wait to become a doctor and be a voice for the community! In college I was fortunate to participate in several programs including: The Biology Scholars Program, UCSF/Kaiser Permanente Undergraduate Research Internship, and the Haas Scholars Program that made me confident I could succeed in medical school. I also co-founded Pre-Health Dreamers in 2012 with the hopes of alleviating the challenges pre-heath undocumented youth face in health/science career pathways.

I can talk like Mickey Mouse!

I recommend surrounding yourself with people that believe and you and will push you to grow. I’ve been fortunate to have wonderful mentors, great friends, and a loving family that have always instilled hope in me and let me know I wasn’t doing this alone. As they say, it takes a village to raise a child! Additionally I recommend getting connected with resources available  at your school (career center, pre-health advisors, campus groups, scholarship or fellowship programs) and not be afraid to ask for help 🙂
